Wolf Pack is mostly untapped potential—so far.

These [two] episodes feel like an overlong prologue. But credit Davis’ ability to blend teen horror and romance and his photogenic young cast for making me want to learn more about them and the secrets that seem destined to bind them as a pack.

There are signs of a more interesting show that flicker throughout “Wolf Pack,” like when Rodrigo Garcia intermittently appears to hint at a broader storyline that seems ill-paced. Hopefully more of that show will emerge, perhaps during a full moon, but until then, “Wolf Pack” is all growl and no bite.

The potential was all there, but this is only as good as the way it is actually executed. Despite the joy to be had in seeing Gellar chew up the scenery once more, Wolf Pack is a series that remains lost in the woods, with little promise for it to find its way out.

It's a premise with a ton of potential, but in the first two episodes provided for review, it mostly falls flat. A major part of that problem is the lack of on-screen chemistry among our titular pack.

If ever there was a time for Wolf Pack, a gritty show adapted from a book series that stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, it’s now. But as much as the cards are stacked in Wolf Pack’s favor, at least over its first two episodes, this just isn’t a project with enough bite.

Nothing about Wolf Pack works for us, and there’s not nearly enough of Sarah Michelle Gellar to redeem everything else that’s wrong.

It feels like “Wolf Pack” is trapped by a mythology it hasn’t even expanded on yet. It’s all too familiar to be treated like it’s something new.

Wolf Pack is a howler.

Wolf Pack kicks off with a pilot that I found to be entertainingly bad, with enough amusingly heightened elements that I could keep watching with morbid curiosity. The second of two episodes sent to critics is so disjointed and uninvolving that all curiosity evaporated, like the tiniest droplet of water in the middle of an inferno.

Jan 29, 2023I liked the cast and the characters. Bad CGI, but if that doesn't bother you, then I would say this show has potential.
