It doesn’t hurt that Peele’s latest boasts some of the most inspired alien design since H.R. Giger left his mark on the genre, or that Kaluuya’s eyes remain some of Hollywood’s most special effects, as “Nope” gets almost as much mileage from their weariness as “Get Out” squeezed from their clarity. It’s through them that “Nope” searches for a new way of seeing, returns the Haywoods to their rightful place in film history, and creates the rare Hollywood spectacle that doesn’t leave us looking for more. Because Nope, enjoyable as a spectacle but conceptually barely thought through, is all over the place. Peele can’t take just one or two interesting ideas and follow their trail of complexity. Jordan Poole has done it again. Another hit. Modern day hitmaker. Nope is very different than his other two films. Great ensemble cast here. The movie kept me absolutely riveted throughout its entire 2 hour run time. The only thing I didn't like was the backstory with the chimpanzee andJordan Poole has done it again. Another hit. The movie started off slow like any other Jordan Peele Movie Also I have to see this a 2nd time to understand all the little themes of the movie Daniel Kaluuya continues to be one of the best black actors out right now This movie will be important for the next 25 years Well Done

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is too long and the first half is boring and frustrating. But, after the first hour, we actually get to see the alien creature more and more and it looks pretty cool. The other characters in the movie are generally annoying, boring, or frustrating. However, underneath all of that there is a smart story being told, themes about the first thing ever recorded on video relating to how the characters want to capture the Nope on video. The second half of the movie makes up for the shortcomings of the first and the ending is so good it redeems the movie. I just wish it had been shorter and that they would put some more exciting plot points in the first half of the movie so they don’t put the audience to sleep before the good scenes start happening… Expand

As much as I hate to say it (and at the risk of parroting what a number of other critics have already said), the title of writer-director Jordan Peele’s latest pretty much sums up the film. After brilliant career starts with “Get Out” (2017) and “Us” (2019), this rising star in the world ofAs much as I hate to say it (and at the risk of parroting what a number of other critics have already said), the title of writer-director Jordan Peele’s latest pretty much sums up the film. After brilliant career starts with “Get Out” (2017) and “Us” (2019), this rising star in the world of filmmaking has lost his way with this one. While I didn’t exactly hate the picture, it underachieves what this director is capable of. Its fairly simple premise is far too stretched out, padded with material that’s somewhat predictable and adds little to the development of the overall narrative. What’s more, the film lacks much of the humor and signature fright moments that characterized the filmmaker’s previous two works, coming across as flatter than those pictures. Add to that some plot devices that don’t make sense, a big reveal that comes far too early on in the film, a sleepwalking performance by lead Daniel Kaluuya, a failure of the director to “kill its darlings” and a lack of any appreciably new insights into the phenomenon of ufology, and you’ve got a mix that, sadly, just doesn’t cut it compared to Peele’s caliber. Personally, I’d recommend that prospective viewers wait until this one comes out on cable or streaming services; there’s no need to plunk down full theatrical prices for this disappointing offering.… Expand
