Despite only airing 20 episodes across two seasons, Party Down—which follows the staff of an L.A. catering company and came from much of the team behind Veronica Mars—remains one of TV's all-time great workplace comedies. Now, 13 years after it last aired, a third season has arrived. Though Lizzy Caplan will not appear due to scheduling issues, everyone else is back from the original show, including Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally, Martin Starr, and Ryan Hansen. New regulars include Jennifer Garner, Zoë Chao, and Brockmire's Tyrel Jackson Williams, while each of the six new episodes will again take place at a different party, allowing for plenty of guest star opportunities for the likes of Quinta Brunson, James Marsden, and more. Are we having fun yet? Sounds like it.

Daisy Jones and the Six ![]() |
Drama/Music | Prime Video
First ordered to series by Amazon in 2018—before the source material, a novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, was even published—the 10-episode rock drama finally begins streaming today (with multiple episodes added weekly through March 24). Tracing the rise and fall of a fictional, Fleetwood Mac-style 1970s rock band from L.A.'s Laurel Canyon scene over multiple decades, Daisy Jones stars Riley Keough in the title role alongside Suki Waterhouse, Sam Claflin, Timothy Olyphant, Will Harrison, Sebastian Chacon, and Josh Whitehouse. The adaptation comes from Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (The Spectacular Now), while directors include James Ponsoldt, who helms the first five episodes. Will there be original music? You bet: A total of 24 songs were written for the series (by Grammy nominee Blake Mills, plus Phoebe Bridgers, Marcus Mumford, and Jackson Browne, among others) and performed by the cast, and nearly half of those will be available on the fake (but now real) band's debut album Aurora, which also releases today.

A belated TV series sequel to Mel Brooks' 1981 comedy film History of the World: Part I, the eight-episode Hulu exclusive will be a similar anthology of sketches set during a variety of key periods in human history. Unrelated (aside from the general setting) to the recent videogame of the same name or to any of producer Greg Berlanti's other DC shows, The CW's latest (and last?) DC Comics series is set in a chaotic Gotham following the murder of Bruce Wayne. Filling the void left by the fallen superhero is a team of mismatched fugitives consisting of the offspring of Batman's enemies and Wayne's own adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan). Don't remember Turner Hayes from the comics? He's new! A more recognizable figure in the series comes in the form of Harvey Dent/Two-Face, played by Misha Collins (Supernatural).

First ordered to series in 2019, Amazon's 10-part adaptation of Naomi Alderman's award-winning book is set in an alternate world where all teenage girls—and only girls—suddenly gain the power to electrocute people at will which, naturally, has a major impact on the balance of power in every society on the planet. The series adaptation, set in global locations ranging from London to Nigeria to Seattle, also comes from Alderman (along with an all-female writing staff that includes Rocks screenwriter Claire Wilson), while the all-female directing staff is led by The Handmaid's Tale's Reed Morano (who also produces alongside showrunner Raelle Tucker). Because of the numerous production delays (mainly due to the pandemic), the cast has undergone several changes in the past few years but is now led by Toni Collette, Auli'i Cravalho, Josh Charles, Eddie Marsan, and John Leguizamo, while recurring guests include Rob Delaney and Alice Eve. Director Zack Snyder's second straight Netflix film (following 2021's Army of the Dead) is a bigger-budget sci-fi epic that finds a peaceful colony at the edge of the galaxy threatened by invading forces. Enter the reluctant hero: A young woman with a mysterious past (Sofia Boutella) heads to nearby planets to recruit warriors to come to her colony's defense. Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Fisher, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, and Jena Malone also star. The story has its origins in a Star Wars feature that Snyder was developing over a decade ago, though the final product is less family friendly than the Lucasfilm franchise. Expect at least one sequel. |
