Welch’s self-mythologising is extravagant, her poetic language overloaded, yet her lush music binds it all into something magical on songs that exploit explicitly female archetypes to examine her own psyche.

An explosive expression of unity in the face of strife and an exuberant expression of hope. ... But beneath the pomp and circumstance, Welch is traditionally known for, Dance Fever is a deeper look at a woman who unapologetically bares it all.

It boasts some of her strongest singles ever, and, coming at the end of a four year break and a two year pandemic, it’s not the theatrical Welch who shows up here; this is a woman and a songwriter, no forest-sprite.

When a band have been so focused on their brand for as long as Florence + The Machine have, it’s easy for them to box themselves in, muting their power; instead, Dance Fever is the sound of a band finding an escape route, rediscovering what makes them special.

Dance Fever is a startling return, full of all the elements which made us sit up and take notice of Welch in the first place.

Dance Fever is a worthy addition to the band’s catalog, with enough moments to be plucked for what will surely be an invigorating series of live shows beginning in September. It’s a sly and polished effort, sustained by Welch’s fearlessness both in vocal technique and lyrical vulnerability. No modern artist commands such power in both moments of ethereal humanity and mountainous throttle.

Dance Fever may be Welch’s most ecstatically extra work yet. [May 2022, p.75]

It took me a couple of listens, but I am now hooked on each and every song. The album is a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish. This is the most raw and powerful album the band have released so far. Every song is a masterpiece in its own right.
    My top songs are

Quite possibly the best Florence + The Machine album. And considering they already dropped absolute masterpieces like How Big How Blue HowQuite possibly the best Florence + The Machine album. And considering they already dropped absolute masterpieces like How Big How Blue How Beautiful and Ceremonials this is truly saying something. Tracks like Cassandra, Daffodil, Dream Girl Evil and King take the known ingredients of a perfect Florence + The Machine song and develop them further into entirely new, yet completely fitting directions. The titles listed above are my personal highlights but I would rather call them personal favorites amongst an album full of special songs. Dance Fever is like ever past FATM album in one and then some. From theme, to music, to lyrics, to visuals...Absolute triumph. Expand

No Machine=no passion. Florence's voice sounds tired and pale. And I thought High As Hope is a bad album....
