Everything feels strange, savage, implacably other: royalty alongside slavery, formality prized yet pity nowhere to be found. The Northman seems so foreign, as it should. Yet what Eggers never forgets, and this does almost as much as his talent does to make his film so frequently compelling, is that what to the characters is mundane is to us unreal — and vice versa.

The scenario is basic, of course, but works so well. The film is not slow, I haven't seen time go by. A film of incredible quality photography is just crazy. Special mention to Anya Taylor Joy that I found divinely remarkable (with the main actor) she can play anything, she will always impress me

Visually impressive retelling of Hamlet in a Viking setting. It's sensual, brutal and visceral.
It's just important to manage expectations. This is not "Vikings", this is not an "action movie". It's Shakespeare.

Great film with a good plot. Action was great, dialog was good, cinematography was great and the theme has been written before but still manages to be refreshing and a turn-off at the same time
